Episode 37: The One About Skyrim and Stockholm

Making an independent web series is always challenging, whether you're working with three million dollars, or three hundred dollars. On this episode of New Mediacracy, we sit down with veteran director Scott Brown (Larry King Now, Blue Movies, Asylum), multi-hyphenate Kristen Nedopak (Geek Girls Create) and producer/consultant Brian Rodda, to discuss their work in new media, as well as their two new series, Stockholm and Skyrim Parodies.

Join NM regular Chris McCaleb as we talk about making porn funny, crafting your own wardrobe (and the surprising cost of fake fur), creating high-quality work on a tight budget, working with the actual Larry King, shooting in a basement, finding inspiration in video games, and spending special time with Denise Richards.

This was the first show I listened to and I'm already hooked. I can really appreciate the advanced insight on developing a functioning and lucrative web series.

Being a long time filmmaker and currently navigating the path of distribution with a feature film I finished in 2011, I've became frustrated with the traditional model. Like many others in this position I've decided to turn to web series development to keep active in my craft.

We have recently finished our first season of The Next Shot, which is an audience based, interactive web series where the audience tells the story by submitting comments after watching previous episodes. A completely organic, living show. We're presently developing a biker/zombie show which should start production Jan 2013.

With all of that said, you're show began to fill in the gaps of the business side, which my interest continues to grow daily. I'd really love to see more episodes come out, but I know it's either make episodes or talk about them. So I applaud your work.

In conclusion, this was a great show with great insight hosted by great people. I'll be in Santa Monica next Thursday and Friday for AFM. If you're available I'd love to buy you guys a cup of coffee.

Hey Tony, thanks for listening! Just saw this comment so I missed you at AFM. Thanks for the offer, though!
